Clinical Analysis of Fractures and Dislocations of the Shoulder

Abstract
Recently the incidence of fractures and dislocations of the shoulder has been increased with increment of accidents. We reviewed 348 cases of fractures and dislocations of the shoulder treated at Dae Han Hospital from March, 1988 to February,
1991.
1. Among 348 cases, clavicle fractures were 142 cases, proximal humerus fractures were 69 cases and others were as follows; scapular fractures were 57 cases, acromioclavicular joint injuries were 41 cases, anterior dislocations of the shoulder
were 30
cases, sternoclavicular joint injuries were 9 cases.
2. in age and sex distribution, third to fifth decades were frequent and males were slightly predominant.
3. The most common cause of injuries was traffic accident, others were fall down, slip down, direct blow.
4. The associated injuries were shown in 241 cases of 348 cases, among which chest injury was most common.
5. Conservative treatment or operative treatment was performed according to the injury type, severity and age.
6. Complications were as follows; deformity, pain, limitation of motion, nonunion and nerve injury.
7. In most cases, satisfactory results were obtained, but in sternoclavicular joint injury and acromioclavicular joint injury, the results were less favorable.
